The Creator
My goal has already been stated above, that is, to provide free software, Internet services and content. Plain and simple. My name is Nick Pettit, I'm currently 21 years old, and I would classify myself as an artist with a knack for computers. Right now in life I'm concentrating on developing my programming skills to their fullest potential, so I can pursue my career goal of game development. It's funny how the job title "game designer" sounds like a grandiose position to some, and like the lifestyle of a slacker to others. However, I believe that such a career choice is the best way for me to combine my love for art and technology. Let's cruise down my memory lane at light speed...
I've been creating web sites since I was 11, and I programmed for the first time when I was in 8th grade, in TrueBASIC. All throughout middle school, I learned a lot about technology, particularly about digital imaging and video. During my high school years, I decided I wanted to develop my creativity, so I set down technology for four years to focus on the visual arts. This turned out to be a very good decision, because it allowed me to understand the principals of art, which will continue to serve me as I design web sites and video games.
It wasn't until about 2005 when I was in my freshman year of college that I started getting into the subject of programming heavily, learning C/C++. I liked it so much that I changed my major from cinema studies to internet and interactive systems, with a minor in computer science. In the Spring of 2006, I took it upon myself to learn PHP, SQL, and relational database design. I'm still discovering the world of server-side programming, and I'm having a blast doing it.
In the future, I hope to learn Java and JavaScript, more about 3D programming, more about graph theory, and most of all, I hope to create more cool stuff for the world to enjoy.
Cya,
Nick
